is the moving story of indomitable Ditte, who with great sense of responsibility, a heart of gold and diligent hands fights her way through life. It is also the story of poverty and not least of the woman in the midst of poverty. Martin Andersen Nexø's accurate depiction of the misery in Denmark is only 100 years away from today. Through Ditte, we experience breastfeeding factories in Copenhagen, meet privileged leftists and get close to a changing society.
